Illusion

The world in its finery,
a kingdom of meadows
for the flowers of Solomon—

mere illusion for the wider field
where eternity tills the soil
and soul wraps its roots around God.

I love this poem Billy - soil & soul wrapped around the eternity of God.

Peace,
JP/deb

p.s. one piece of advice ... lose the "the" before soul and the enjambment is perfect!

so incredibly beautiful. i believe this veiled place to be a mere shadow of the something more we will experience...

Sorry we didn't see you at Arts Evening last night, hon. Maybe next time!
Did you mean it to be "raps" & not "wraps" in the poem? I love the imagery.

Billy--
Thank you for this--that the world as we usually experience it is 'merely' the disguise (or is it the shadow) of the soul's relationship with eternity.
Intricate work here!

And thanks for stopping by the Virtual Tea House--

the last line is especially powerful, the image of the soul's roots.

This poem exudes the soul's desire to be with God. Thank you for sharing it. I really like the last line.

Deb, you are exactly right about "the." I changed it. It's much tighter. Thanks!

anthony, thanks! I've added you the the link list on my two blogs. You've got a great one!

Charles, it's a simple line from the gospels, but it's always been a favorite of mine.

Yes, the true essence lies beneath the surface colors.

I think we all share in that desire to embrace eternity, whether it be through God or our timeless connections to others.

Beautiful as always, Billy.

Guatami, thanks as always! -:)

Sarah, the journey toward eternity--it's everyone's destiny although as you say, there are many paths! Thanks!

"a kingdom of meadows
for the flowers of Solomon"

nicely said billy. the poem's brevity is a perfect tandem to the theme.

illusion...i agree. but what a grand illusion it is eh? :)

WH said...

cargwaps, yes, a splendid illusion! And thanks--the length should always reflect the theme in some way, shap, or form :)

So grand in its scope. It sounds like a religion.

It probably is.
